Explaination

Ensuring the safety and security of its citizens is the clearest mandate the federal government has, and it is clearly an inherently governmental function. However, the administration has reversed the FAAs previous course, designated Air Traffic Control as NOT INHERENTLY GOVERNMENTAL, and plans to sell Air Traffic Control services by privatizing the functions of Flight Service Controllers through the A-76 process.

Congressional approval will not be sought, nor does the FAA desire Congressional oversight. In fact, the FAA is deliberately not publicizing this action, canceling their own agencys press release. In a further attempt to maintain a low profile, FAA management has delayed their own reporting to Congress.

Unless Congress steps in to halt this dangerous path, the United States National Airspace System will follow the same trend as those in Canada, Europe, and other countries that have sold their responsibilities to the lowest bidder. Nationalization and privatization of these services have been an expensive and inefficient failure, by any standard, and it is the pilot and passengers who suffer the consequences.
