NAATS HQ E-Mail Update June 30, 2006 The votes have been counted and certified by the NLRB. Out of 1056 ballots cast, 431 voted “yes,” 598 voted “no”, and 27 were challenged. I am deeply disappointed to report that the majority of the bargaining unit members who voted were not in favor of union representation, choosing instead to go it alone as “at-will” employees and just hope for the best. For their sake, I can only hope that Lockheed Martin will turn out to be as benevolent an employer as it has professed to be.Since the election appears to have been run fairly, we do not intend to file a challenge unless we learn in the next few days about conduct by Lockheed managers that created an intimidating atmosphere in particular facilities, or about benefits promised by Lockheed in the event employees voted against unionization. There will be a BOD telcon during the coming week to consider and set in motion various steps to downsize and focus the Union on representing its remaining federal sector members. In all likelihood, the Constitution will need to be revised and a new election conducted in the near future. In the meantime, I would like to thank everyone, including the folks at NAGE, who worked tirelessly on the campaign to provide Lockheed Martin’s flight service controllers with meaningful workplace protections. Your giving of your time and money to try and help people will never be forgotten by this union supporter. At this point, I’m at a loss for words, I will have more information for you next week.
