Certified Professional Controller: Combined Control Facility
Air Traffic Control Specialist
AT-2152

Position Summary:

As a certified professional controller (CPC) in a Combined Control facility, incumbent is responsible for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic.

I. *Major Duties:

1. Provides radar approach control services for one or more airports, and domestic and international enroute air traffic control for a large area of airspace.

2. Operates automated radar systems, including computer routines for inputting and/or obtaining pertinent control data, and detects malfunctions or interferences in the system.

3. Issues speed, altitude, and directional instructions to pilots to keep aircraft properly separated.

4. Provides air traffic advisory, services to pilots including clearances to operate aircraft, weather and field conditions, and safety' and traffic alerts.

7. Provides training to developmental air traffic controllers and other employees in the facility.

II. Other Duties: (EFFECTIVE OCTOBER I, 2000)

Performs the technical functions associated with training, briefings, quality assurance, and the technical functions of staff support specialists.

Provides watch supervision for the continuous operation of a facility or area where a supervisor is not available.

III. Supervision Received:

Works under direct supervision at the outset of each new assignment. When certified on the required position(s) of operation, the CPC independently performs the described duties under general supervision.

As a certified professional controller (CPC) in a Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility, incumbent is responsible for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic.

I. *Major Duties:

1. Provides radar approach control services for several hub airports, and satellite airports,
and controls aircraft arriving, departing, and transiting the facility's airspace.

2. Operates radar and communication equipment to apply radar separation standards and
vectoring procedures. Detects and adjusts malfunctions and interferences in the equipment,

3. Issues speed, altitude, and directional instructions to pilots to keep aircraft properly
separated.

4. Provides air traffic advisory services to pilots including clearances to operate aircraft,
weather and field conditions, and safety and traffic alerts.

5. Provides training to developmental air traffic controllers and other employees in the
facility.

Position Summary:

As a certified professional controller (CPC) in an Air Route Traffic Control Center, incumbent is responsible for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic.

I. *Major Duties:

1. Controls and separates en route air traffic within designated airspace, along airways, and over oceanic routes. Provides approach control services and radar separation for IFR and VFR aircraft operating to and from non-approach controlled and non-controlled airports.

2. Operates automated radar systems, including computer routines for inputting and/or obtaining pertinent control data, and detects malfunctions or interferences in the system.

3. Provides advisory service to pilots such as status of navigational aids, other air traffic, weather and airport conditions, and status of restricted and military operating areas.

5. Provides radar services to aircraft operating under VFR procedures including in-flight assistance, radar traffic advisories, VFR emergencies, and direction finding services.

6. Provides training to developmental air traffic controllers and other employees in the facility.

2. Operates various tower cab equipment such as communications systems, runway visibility measuring equipment, navigational aid monitors, and direction finding equipment.

3. Coordinates the orderly exchange of aircraft among other facilities to expedite the flow of air traffic.

4. Provides air traffic advisory services to pilots including issuing clearances to operate aircraft, weather and field conditions, and safety and traffic alerts.

5. Provides training to developmental air traffic controllers and other employees in the facility.

II. Other Duties: (EFFECTIVE OCTOBER I, 2000)
