Dear Mr./Mrs./Ms. Senators last name
I am writing to ask you to look into a matter that jeopardizes my safety and
security.
As a constituent living in your district, I have learned that the FAA is
planning to contract out functions that directly impact the safety of my
travels.
I am concerned that if the FAA contracts out the Flight Service functions to
the lowest bidder, the contractor will always be looking for short cuts and
service reductions, in order to increase profits. This can have fatal
consequences for myself, as a passenger, and also for those unsuspecting
citizens living and working beneath the flight path.
Weather is a contributing factor in, if not the primary cause of, most
aviation accidents, and forecasting is still not an exact science! Because
of these facts, it is imperative that pilots have access to aviation weather
experts both before and during flight.
I rely on pilots to make critical flight decisions. Because of their
training, experience and dedication to safety, Flight Service Controllers
help pilots avoid hazardous weather conditions that could threaten my
safety. Their continuous monitoring of weather conditions often averts
potential tragedies when weather conditions deteriorate unexpectedly. Also,
these Controllers assist pilots in avoiding the numerous areas critical to
national security.
With the negative reports coming out of Canada, Europe and other nations
that have privatized Aviation Safety and Security, I ask that you and your
colleagues intervene in this dangerous plan the FAA is undertaking, and keep
the responsibility for the safety and security of its citizens in the
direct control of the government under the watchful eye of our elected
representatives.
If a Government can claim any mandate, it is the mandate to protect the
safety and security of its citizens.
Sincerely
